Dental Crowns & Bridges
CROWNS: A crown covers a tooth in order to strengthen and restore it to its normal shape and size. Dr. Larson only uses materials with long-lasting benefits to our patients – porcelain, metal, or a combination. Crowns can:
- support a large filling when there is little remaining tooth structure
- provide strength and support to a tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy
- protect weak teeth from fracturing
- restore fractured teeth
- attach a bridge
BRIDGE: A fixed bridge, usually made of gold (or porcelain-faced gold), is used to replace missing teeth. A bridge:
- consists of abutments (sound teeth or crowns) and the span (a metal framework with artificial teeth)
- helps create a normal bite, and restores normal chewing function
- prevents stress on the dental arch to avert drifting and tilt of adjacent teeth
- inhibits decay in difficult areas and slows the onset of periodontal diseases.
